It's no secret that July in the Coachella Valley is one of the best times to truly understand what it means to live here year-round. The season has fully shifted. The visitors who define our winters have all gone home, and what's left is a version of this valley that only locals get to experience: quieter, warmer, and somehow more itself.
If June is the opening act of the Secret Season, July is when it fully settles in. The sky is a deeper, more saturated blue. The mountains at sunrise are extraordinary in this heat. And the valley’s social calendar, rather than going quiet, simply transforms into something more community-oriented and, honestly, more fun!
This is the month where you’ll find a genuine local energy that never quite exists during peak season. If you’ve been curious about what life here looks like when the valley is not putting on a show for the world — this month is your window.
Here is your guide to the best July 2026 events in Greater Palm Springs, La Quinta, and the Coachella Valley.
Mid-Month Culture & the Arts (July 11–19)
One of the things I love most about summer in the valley is how the cultural programming deepens. Without the noise of peak season, these events get the attention they deserve.
Movies at the Plaza Theatre | July 11 & July 19
Where: The Plaza Theatre, Palm Springs
Visit: https://www.palmspringsplazatheatre.com/events
The historic Plaza Theatre is one of those Palm Springs venues that reminds you why people fell in love with this town in the first place. This month it screens two very different films:
July 5: Jaws — what better way to kick off 250 years of American culture than this summer classic!
July 11: Grease — a fun, nostalgic summer night at the movies
July 19: Titanic the Musical — the acclaimed stage production brought to the screen
Both evenings are worth building a dinner around. Old Town Palm Springs has no shortage of great options nearby.
Palm Springs Desert Art Luxury Fair | July 17–19
Where: Civic Center Campus, La Quinta
When: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily | Free Admission
Visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/palm-springs-desert-art-luxury-fair-tickets-1988008316390
This one is right in our La Quinta backyard, and I always enjoy walking through it. Three days of original handcrafted goods — high-end textiles, ceramics, jewelry, and fine art — in a setting that genuinely shows off what this community has to offer. Free admission makes it an easy weekend addition, and the Civic Center grounds are beautiful this time of year, even in the heat.
Late July: Flavors & Grand Finales
Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage | July 23 – August 16
Where: Participating restaurants throughout Rancho Mirage
This is one of my favorite summer traditions in the valley. Local nonprofits sell $10 wristbands that unlock dining specials at the area’s best restaurants. This is a very good way to support the community while also exploring the culinary scene. It runs through August 16, so there is plenty of time to make the rounds. Support a local nonprofit, discover a new favorite restaurant, repeat.
Dancing with the Stars Con 2026 | July 31 – August 2
Where: Acrisure Arena, Greater Palm Springs
This one is a first: the inaugural Dancing with the Stars Fan Convention makes its debut at Acrisure Arena. Live ballroom performances, Q&A panels with Mirrorball champions and judges, interactive experiences, and the kind of energy that only DWTS fans can generate. If you or someone you love follows the show, this is a genuinely exciting closer to July. And if you’ve never been to Acrisure Arena, its proximity to Palm Springs and the surrounding communities makes it worth the trip.
Recurring Events Worth Building Into Your July
If your July calendar stays fluid, these recurring events are a reliable and genuinely lovely way to spend an evening:
VillageFest | Every Thursday, 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Palm Canyon Drive becomes an open-air market every Thursday evening — artisans, fresh flowers, food, and live music. In July, the crowd is local, the pace is unhurried, and the energy is exactly what a summer evening in Palm Springs should feel like. A great first stop for visitors discovering the valley for the first time.

Indoor Farmer's Market | Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
The summer temperatures may get the better of most outdoor activities, but desert natives know how to navigate the heat. Visit Palm Desert every Saturday for an opportunity to experience fresh baked treats, beautiful flowers, unique handcrafted creations, freshly harvested produce, gourmet specialty foods, and cherished local products, all while staying perfectly cool under refreshing misters and in air conditioning.

Temalpakh Farm | Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Created, owned, and operated by the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians, Temalpakh—which translates to "from the earth"—is a thriving, USDA-certified organic farm committed to sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and the community. When you visit you can expect fresh, organic produce free of harsh chemicals, synthetic pesticides, and GMOs as well as a refreshing smoothie bar. If you're looking for the freshest, most nutritious ingredients in the valley, Temalpakh Farm is a peaceful destination that connects you directly to the land.

Thinking About the Coachella Valley in July? Watch the Market
The summer real estate market in the Coachella Valley is, in many ways, the best-kept secret of the year. Inventory remains healthy, the pace is more deliberate, and buyers and sellers have the time and space to make thoughtful decisions rather than reactive ones.
For buyers considering communities like Rancho La Quinta Country Club, Andalusia at Coral Mountain, The Hideaway, or Indian Wells estates, July touring has a distinct advantage: you are seeing the property and the community in their most authentic summer state. If a home feels right in July — if the courtyard works, if the orientation handles the afternoon sun well, if the neighborhood has the energy you’re looking for even in the off-season — that reveals something meaningful and could ignite that spark that you've been looking for.
I am always happy to show properties in July, and I would genuinely encourage anyone on the fence about timing to reach out! The summer market rewards buyers who are willing to show up for it.
Insider’s Tip: Morning showings from 8–10 AM or late-afternoon showings after 5 PM are the way to go. The light on these homes as the sun drops behind the Santa Rosa Mountains is something no photograph could really capture. I recommend late afternoon specifically, because the way the sky shifts from day to night is one of the most magnificent desert events to witness and one that consistently helps clients truly fall in love with this very special place.

Late July closes with the Taste of Summer dining series in Rancho Mirage and the inaugural Dancing with the Stars Con 2026 at Acrisure Arena (July 31–August 2). Is July a good time to visit Palm Springs?
Yes, absolutely — with preparation and intention. July in Greater Palm Springs offers the valley’s lowest accommodation rates, uncrowded resorts, and a genuine window into local life beyond the peak-season calendar. Afternoon temperatures regularly exceed 110°F. Visitors who structure outdoor activity in the mornings and evenings, and embrace air-conditioned afternoons, tend to find July surprisingly enjoyable — and often return.
When is Dancing with the Stars Con 2026?
The first-ever Dancing with the Stars Fan Convention runs July 31 through August 2, 2026 at Acrisure Arena in Greater Palm Springs. The event features live ballroom performances, Q&A panels with Mirrorball champions and judges, and interactive fan experiences.
Is July a good time to buy real estate in the Coachella Valley?
July is a strategically sound time to explore Coachella Valley real estate. Inventory is at its seasonal high, competition from other buyers is reduced, and sellers tend to be more open to conversation than during the January–March peak. Seeing a property in July also gives buyers a meaningful data point: a home that works in the desert’s warmest, most demanding conditions works in every season.
July in the Valley Is Worth Showing Up For
Every month in this desert has something that makes it worth experiencing. July’s gift is authenticity. July let's visitors experience the valley exactly as it is without the performance of peak season. The community events are attended by the people who actually live here year-round. And the light, especially at the end of a July day when it turns copper and low over the mountains, is something I never stop being grateful for.
Whether you are a longtime resident settling into the summer rhythm, a visitor experiencing the valley for the first time, or a buyer trying to understand what life here actually looks like in July.
I welcome the chance to be your guide to the communities, the nuances, and the quiet beauty of a place I have called home for over thirty years.
